He is a graduate of Edremit Vocational High School of Commerce and Anadolu University Faculty of Economics.

He worked as a financial consultant and in accounting departments in the private sector. He was involved in the jewelry sector until he was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2007. He is a member of the Balıkesir Chamber of Commerce, the Balıkesir Contemporary Education Foundation (BAÇEV), Balıkesirspor Club, and Galatasaray Congress.

Starting with the reopening of the CHP in 1992, he served as the founding district chairman of Balıkesir-İvrindi for many years. He served as a delegate at the 1995 SHP-CHP merger Congress and at the Ordinary and Extraordinary Congresses between 1995 and 2010. He was a parliamentary candidate in the 1999 and 2002 General Elections and served on the CHP High Disciplinary Board for seven years between 2003 and 2010.

He served as a Member of Parliament for Balıkesir during the 23rd term of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (2007-2011). During his time in the Assembly, he served on the “Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Commission” and the “Public Economic Enterprises Commission (KİT)”. He also served on the investigation and research commissions established during this period: one established to investigate problems in the production and trade of olives, olive oil, and other vegetable oils and to determine necessary measures, and another established to investigate problems in the mining sector and to determine necessary measures.

He has undertaken various overseas visits with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and on official assignments.

He continues to write articles for various newspapers and online publications.
